Phil EricksonPhilip Erickson City Attorney Philip A. Erickson has served as City Attorney for the City of Eaton Rapids since April of 2002. Philip is a shareholder with the law firm of Plunkett & Cooney, P.C. and is a member of the Michigan Association of Municipal Attorneys. He has extensive experience in representing Michigan municipalities. He is also an active member of the State Bar of Michigan and the American Bar Association State and Local Government Law Section. Philip received his undergraduate degree from James Madison College at Michigan State University in 1981 where he was a member of the Honors College. He graduated with honors from the Wayne State University School of Law in 1984.

The City Attorney serves as primary legal advisor to City Council, Mayor, City Manager, City Superintendent and all City Departments, Boards, Commissions, Authorities, Offices and Agencies.

Responsibilities of the City Attorney include serving as primary legal advisor to the City Counsel, the Mayor, the City Manager, the City Superintendent and all City Departments, Commissions, Boards, Authorities, Offices and Agencies. The City Attorney prosecutes all ordinance violations in the City and works closely with the Police Department. The City Attorney prepares and/or reviews city ordinances, regulations, contracts and such other matters as may be required by the City Charter, City Council or otherwise. The City Attorney represents the City in litigation where there is no insurance counsel appointed, and he monitors litigation in which insurance counsel is appointed. The City Attorney attends meetings of the City Council, and advises the City Council with respect to its duties and responsibilities under the Open Meetings Act and the Freedom of Information Act.

Council agenda's are posted to the website by Friday around 12:00pm. Our meeting schedule is a Work Session on the 1st and 3rd Monday's at 5pm and Council Meetings on the 2nd and 4th Monday's at 7pm. All meetings are held at City Hall on the 2nd floor.
