There is no better way to define community pride than the excitement that builds when the Eaton Rapids Greyhound Marching Band’s colored flags, percussion cadence, precision marching dance steps and energetic music are part of a parade. The Greyhound Marching Band is one of the largest, most visible ambassadors for the community and the Eaton Rapids Public Schools. The marching band performs for over 100,000 people outside of the Eaton Rapids area each year including parades, marching band exhibitions, Lansing’s Silver Bells in the City parade and all home football games.
The Eaton Rapids Public Schools Band Program has a highly successful track record, an outstanding impact on our young people and a positive, outstanding reputation within and outside of our community.
Our bands consistently receive I-II ratings at adjudicated band festivals. High School bands have performed in the Detroit Thanksgiving Parade, Disney’s Magic Kingdom and Boston. The Middle School bands have been part of WLNS’s Mid-Michigan Holiday program, a popular holiday TV production and our 8th Grade Band has performed for Lansing Lugnuts Grand Slam School Day baseball games since 2003.
Students begin their band experience in 5th grade (unlike many schools in our area) and perform their “debut” concert in mid-January. Greyhound Band classes continue with eager, active and engaged students through our 6th grade, middle school and high school students.
Concert performances begin in October when the 7th and 8th grade bands take the stage. High School and Middle School concert and jazz band performances add a festive evening to your holiday season in December. Concert dates in January, March and May offer several opportunities to enjoy and celebrate the accomplishments of our student musicians. The public is warmly invited to attend all concert performances with free admission.
At the foundation of the successful Eaton Rapids Greyhound Bands are excellent music educators, dedicated students, engaged parents and community supporters working cooperatively to continue, and strengthen the “band experience” for all band students and audiences alike.
